November 30, 20223 min read

If you're a YouTube video maker, one of your goals may be to monetize your material so that you may start earning money from it. If you're still looking to build your channel, the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is a terrific place to start.

You may have heard a lot about the Partner Program, but what exactly is it, and how can you qualify?

YouTube Partner Program: The Basics

YouTube is a free platform for both artists and viewers. It is also the world's second largest search engine. YouTube's business plan has always been to create significant profit for its parent firm, Google, with over 1.7 billion hits every month.

However, that exact economic model is largely reliant on you, the creator, consistently providing fresh and compelling material that will appeal to viewers and advertisers that pump billions of dollars into site marketing every day.

The YPP provides a portion of the advertisement pie to authors who meet certain conditions (more on that later). It's a revenue-sharing model, which means that when a creator permits adverts on their YouTube videos and viewers watch those commercials, the cash is divided between the artist and YouTube.

Currently, the creator receives 55% of ad money, while YouTube retains the remaining 45%.

Given that YouTube does not charge any creator a price for hosting, we believe this is a fantastic value.

However, YouTube is still a business, and it must keep advertisers pleased in order for them to continue spending money on the platform. Not every creator is eligible to take part in the YPP. YouTube wants to see that you can create a subscriber base and provide material that keeps people interested.

What You Need to Know About the YouTube Partner Program

Before you may apply to the YPP, you must first complete two critical platform goals:

In a 12-month timeframe, generate 4,000 hours of public viewing time.

Attract at least 1,000 YouTube subscribers to your channel.

While these are not easy goals for any artist, they demonstrate to YouTube that you may be a suitable match for the monetization tool.

To get the needed watch time, see our blog post, "6 Ways to Generate 4,000 Hours of YouTube Watch Time FASTER!" It's packed with tips on increasing view time for your channel, no matter where you are right now. Stay tuned for additional smart suggestions on growing your channel's subscriber base so you can reach the 1,000 mark!

How to Join YouTube's Partner Program

You are now able to apply if you have 4,000 hours of viewing time and 1,000 subscribers.

Simply finish your application in your YouTube Studio. Click 'Monetization' on your dashboard's left-hand menu. This will take you to the YPP application page, where you must complete three stages before pressing the submit button. You must do the following:

Examine and accept the YPP's Terms of Service.

Create and link a Google AdSense account to your YouTube channel.

Wait for YouTube to examine your channel and make a decision.

It might take up to a month for YouTube to respond to your request, so don't be concerned if you don't hear back right away. In the meanwhile, take advantage of this chance to continue generating and sharing content that you know works for you. Oh, and don't worry if you miss the opportunity to meet the requirements. When you are qualified to apply, YouTube will notify you through email.

Please keep in mind that, while membership to the YPP is potentially open to any author, your request may be denied in specific cases. Check out our guide to YouTube's Advertiser Guidelines to determine if any of your material may cause you to be unable to monetise your channel.

For additional information about generating money on YouTube, see the following video from the platform:

Many producers use YouTube to give knowledge or entertain, but generating money from your material is also a fantastic reason!! Simply continue to provide the platform with what it desires and requires (interesting, viewable material), and it will reward you with a mechanism to monetise that content. Best wishes with your application!
